“Part-time maid”, “part-time cleaner”, “part-time helper” and “home cleaning service” are often used as if they mean the same thing. They overlap, but they suit different needs.
In short, a part-time maid (also called a part-time cleaner or helper) gives you regular household help with chores on set days. A home cleaning service gives you cleaning sessions, either regular upkeep or a one-off clean with a defined scope, such as a deep clean or a move-out clean. KleanSG offers all of these, so this guide explains how to tell which one you need.
What a part-time maid does
A part-time maid comes in for a few hours on set days, usually weekly, to keep the home in order. The work is broad household upkeep rather than one big cleaning project.
Typical tasks include:
- sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors;
- dusting and wiping tables and surfaces;
- cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms;
- general tidying;
- washing dishes;
- laundry, ironing and changing bedsheets.
You decide which tasks matter most and agree the priorities and hours for each visit. At KleanSG, part-time cleaner visits are $23.98 per hour including GST ($22 before GST), with a minimum of 2 hours per visit. You provide the cleaning products and equipment, and we aim to send the same cleaner for every weekly visit.
This works well for families, working adults and tenants who want steady help without hiring a full-time helper.
What a home cleaning service covers
A home cleaning service works to an agreed cleaning scope. At KleanSG it comes in two forms.
Regular home cleaning is a cleaning session booked weekly, fortnightly, monthly or as a one-off: floors, dusting, bathrooms, the kitchen and high-touch points. It is $18 to $22 per hour, usually with a 3-hour minimum, and you provide the supplies and equipment. Laundry and ironing can be added when arranged.
One-off detailed cleans are separate services, quoted on scope after we see photos:
- Deep cleaning: a thorough reset of a lived-in home.
- Move-in or move-out cleaning: preparing a unit for handover, the next occupant or the end of a tenancy.
- Post-renovation cleaning: removing fine dust and surface residue once renovation works and debris are cleared.
- Spring cleaning: a clean planned around a festival, event or target date.
For deep, move-in/move-out and post-renovation cleaning, KleanSG brings the equipment, supplies and chemicals for the agreed work. For spring cleaning, supplies and equipment can be included if you request them.

Which option suits your home
Choose a part-time maid if you:
- want help every week or on fixed days;
- need chores such as laundry, ironing and dishes done, not just cleaning;
- would like the same person each visit;
- mainly need to keep an already clean home in good order.
Choose regular home cleaning if you:
- only need cleaning, not chores;
- want sessions weekly, fortnightly, monthly or now and then.
Choose a one-off detailed clean if you:
- are moving in or out, or reaching the end of a tenancy;
- have just finished renovating;
- have not had a thorough clean for a long time;
- want a defined result for a specific date, such as before guests arrive.
Using both
Many households combine the two. Book a deep clean first to bring the home to a good baseline, then arrange weekly part-time help or regular cleaning to keep it there. Maintenance is much quicker when the cleaner is not fighting months of built-up grease and soap scum.
Is a part-time helper legal?
It depends on who does the work. MOM does not allow a foreign domestic worker to work part-time for anyone other than her employer, even with her employer’s consent. For part-time household services such as home cleaning, MOM says households can contact the companies on its Household Services Scheme (HSS) list. KleanSG is on that list. Our guide Is it legal to hire a part-time helper in Singapore? explains the rules and how to check a company.
What about a full-time helper?
A live-in domestic helper suits households that need daily help with cleaning, cooking or caregiving. It is a bigger commitment: you need a Work Permit from MOM, pay a monthly levy, buy insurance and provide accommodation in your home.
If you only need a few hours of help each week, part-time support is usually more practical.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which tasks will be done on each visit, and in what order of priority?
- How many hours does the home need per visit?
- Who provides the cleaning products and equipment?
- Will the same cleaner come each time?
- How do rescheduling and cancellations work?
- Which days are available? KleanSG cleans on weekdays and Saturdays, not Sundays.
